95.5 WBRU Rock Hunt

So happy to announce that we are the 2014 winners of the 95.5 WBRU Rock Hunt! Thank you so much to everyone who came out to support us. We couldn't be more grateful to the local music scene, we wouldn't be where we are today without you. Excited to be a part of this amazing Rhode Island community!

Boston & Beyond at SXSW

Yesterday we played our very first showcase at the SXSW music festival in Austin, TX. To see so many of our favorite Boston bands all together under one tent was a spectacle. To see it all happen at the heart of an international music festival was humbling to say the least. Our last show with Evolfo Doofhet was in a packed, sweaty DIY house venue in Somerville. We watched them replicate that night's wild energy on the Boston & Beyond stage, and couldn't help but feel the feels. There's something really special going on in Boston right now - just ask Liz Pelly from NME. We had fun during our set too:

None of this could have been possible without the gracious support of the Berklee College of Music, Vanyaland.com, The Red Room, and so many more. We'll be popping around the festival seeing other bands this weekend before our double-header Sunday at Red-Eyed Fly at 11pm and Amped at 1am. Peace.

The Rare Occasions are pleased to announce the release of their debut EP, entitled Applefork. It is available for download on bandcamp, and features five of the band's best tracks. Enjoy!

95.5 WBRU Rock Hunt

Congratulations to Lolita Black as they move on to the Rock Hunt Finals at THE MET on April 6th. Everyone in RI should go to support them and the other three finalists (yet to be determined). We'd like to thank 95.5 WBRU for having us in the Rock Hunt this year - we couldn't be happier with the audience and the performances, and because of you guys, we've been able to expose our music to so many new fans and even made some new friends - Satellites Fall! Thanks to the Providence Phoenix and the Providence Monthly for covering the event and contributing judges. Stay tuned for some future performances in Providence and Boston and our debut EP!

Hot Off The Press

You may have spotted The Rare Occasions a few times recently in student media at Tufts.  Last week, we were featured in an article in the Tufts Daily about the top bands on campus.  The article also spotlights Tufts bands Indian Twin and Indoor Kites.

This week, Brian and Peter were interviewed for a feature in the Tufts Observer, which looks at the music scene on campus in a more candid light, describing the successes and struggles of student bands and painting a full-spectrum picture of music at Tufts.

Both articles provide great perspectives on the campus music culture.  You can read them by clicking the links below:

Aside from student-run print media, Tufts University has been talking us up on the web.  The Jumble, a daily blog run by the university let its readers know about our music video for "Miss Mary Mack" when it first came out.  We were also mentioned in an article on the Tufts Alumni website about Guster's Spring Fling performance and the seventeen-year musical journey that led them there.

AS220 Show

The Rare Occasions will be performing at AS220 in Providence, RI on Wednesday January 9th.

Music Video: "Miss Mary Mack"

The Rare Occasions released a music video today, filmed by Alex Breen and Matt Lacombe. Enjoy!
